Novice training in 2006 was held at the club on a Friday night held over two six week sessions and it is planned to do this again in 2007 althought it may be held on a Sunday morning.

In addition many of our sailors accessed training as a member of a Topper squad, and sometimes they got to do this at Budworth when a few of our non squad members joined in.

ITCA also held open training at Budworth (twice) in 2006, with up to 38 sailors participating (including about a dozen from the club). Most of this training takes place in the winter but this winter the club’s facilities will not be available for this type of training.

RAYMARINE YOUNG SAILOR OF THE YEAR

Topper World Champ nominated by NW

Topper World Champ Andrew Brown, from Budworth SC, is the NW Regional nominee for the Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year award.

Although still just 14, Andrew has had an outstanding year. His major success was winning the Topper World Championship at Lake Garda in Italy, in July, with 160 competitors from 10 countries (see the next report, with picture).

He was also runner-up in the National Championship at Weymouth in August in a fleet of 260 boats, and runner-up in the Inland Championship in April.

Open Meeting

34 Sailors competed in the open meeting in July and it would have been many more if it had not clashed with a Youth Squad event.
It was wonderful day with tense racing - The trophy eventually went to Budworth’s Andrew Brown (to also win the NW Traveller Series).

Glorious sunshine and a warm southerly breeze greeted 35 sailors including 23 visitors to Budworth Mere for the final event in the Topper NW Traveller Series 2006.

The race team headed by Graham Tinsley had a hectic day moving marks around to ensure beats and also to ensure that it was all over (!!!!) by 4.00pm to watch England’s date with Portugal.
