Budworth Sailing Club aims to provide a fun and sociable learning environment where Juniors can learn to sail and improve their skills to whatever level suits them best. We are a RYA VOLVO Racing Club and a member of Cheshire’s Schools and Youth Sailing and Canoeing Association (SYSCA) which is a RYA training establishment. As such, we are recognised as having achieved high standards of coaching and training from beginners to racing at club and national level.
During the 2011 season, the club will run regular training sessions following the RYA Junior/Youth Sailing Scheme to develop skills and knowledge.
For more experienced sailors, there will be race training sessions to support progression to the club’s racing programme , open meetings and, for the really keen, selection in RYA Zone/National Squads.
Attendees of the training sessions need to be members of BSC and it is expected that they will have their own boats. However, we have some Optimists and Toppers that can be hired while you decide whether you like sailing and/or the type of boats before committing to a purchase.

GENERAL INFORMATION
- The minimum age to participate is 8 years old and children need to be confident swimmers.
- All training will be in Optimists or Toppers, except the two-man boat course which will be in Fevas or Mirrors and the race training which will be in any BSC adopted junior class
- Bacon (or egg for veggies) butties will be served as last year.
- Be here for 9.00am, rigged and ready for 9.30am. Sessions finish at 12.30pm.
- Parents are responsible for supervision of their children outside the training sessions. If you are not able to be present during the training session, then it is your responsibility to ensure that a responsible person agrees to supervise your child.
- A buoyancy aid must be worn at all times, when on the water or jetties. We do have a small supply of children?s buoyancy aids that can be borrowed if you don?t have your own.
- Staying warm is an important factor in enjoying sailing! If you only sail when the weather is good, T-shirt, shorts and old trainers will do, although it always a good idea to have waterproof coat/top and over-trousers to hand for the changeable Summer weather. For those who are not just fair weather sailors, you need to consider a spray top, wetsuit and wet suit boots. A warm hat and gloves are also considered essential by many. If you don?t have a wetsuit, bring a set of clothes and shoes to travel in and two warm sets of clothes to sail in (eg fleece or tracksuit bottoms and beach shoes/ trainers that can get wet) so that you can get changed and carry on sailing if you get wet early on in the session. Swim wear and towel are also needed. Sunglasses are a good idea when the sun is bright.
- The sun is stronger when on the water than on land, so plenty of sun block is also a good idea.
