Sailing jobs for students in America 2012

Posted on December 12th 2011, by Roger Gardner

I reproduce an email I received last week. If anyone is interested I suggest they make direct contact themselves.

“A big hello from Camp Leaders – we’re an established USA summer jobs specialist, sending thousands of students to work at American summer camps each year!

While at camp, participants lead and assist in a range of activities and we’re really interested in the members of your sailing club. Some sports are considered ‘highly desirable’ and sailing falls into this bracket. This basically means that camps in the US are crying out for people who have skills in this sport, and students with these skills are likely to be placed quickly therefore securing their summer job for 2012.

If possible, we’d love to meet with members of the sailing club and present this opportunity of working in the USA, doing the sport that they love. Applications are open now so the sooner we can meet your team, the sooner they will be placed in a job. Also, if you have a space where you can display flyers and posters to your team members, please advise and I can post some over to you. To arrange a date for a presentation or request flyers/posters, please reply to this email.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Kind regards

El

Many thanks to those who provided the dinghies !

It was a great day for this, with a good wind and 5 or 6 Solo’s there for those who wanted to have a go, like John and Chris above!

The Christmas Outing

Posted on November 18th 2011, by the Webmaster

For seasonal sociability, consider an evening in & arround the central retail district of Manchester - visit some of the new artistic & entertainment attractions - visit a  pleasant drinks venue - and savour a friendly traditional meal out - all in good company.

An Artistic Walk arround the glitzy Spinningfields quarter where there will be opportunities to visit the trendy shops www.theavenuemanchester.com most of which are open until 7pm - Barry Quest leads a 60 minute guided walk starting with an evening viewing of Artzu the new private art gallery in Hardman Square followed by a visit to a a lively bar with an Italian Meal at San Roccos to end the evening.

We aim to make this an open to all- so if you want to just attend the viewing, come late for the meal or meet up for a drink please do.
Deposits for this event £5 per head, now payable- to Peter W,  Alison or the Club galley or bar on Sunday.

Sunny Autumn Sailing!

Posted on November 7th 2011, by the Webmaster

All the fleets enjoyed a lovely autumn day on Sunday. After a foggy start to the morning  the sun broke through, and light wind appeared at lunchtime, kept up through the afternoon and provided us with a beuatiful sunset across the Mere to finish, as you can see!

Hollyoaks visits Budworth!

Posted on October 26th 2011, by Roger Gardner

On Tuesday Channel 4 hired the club to make a commercial advertising their on demand on line TV service using some of the cast of Hollyoaks.

On Monday a large floating pontoon was constructed to use as a shooting platform.

On Tuesday the whole of club became a film set. The bar became the casts’ dressing room!

The clubs rescue boats were out on the water all day.

The morning was spent filming out on the lake as a RIB was driven back and forth by a stunt(!) driver and a crew of stand ins and a dummy. The stand in was ill so they couldn’t get a stand in for the stand in hence the dummy!

The afternoon was spent on the GP jetty filming a mixture of extras dressed as fishermen, more dummies, and the real cast of Hollyoaks. Late in the afternoon the pontoon went back on the water with the Hollyoak cast standing in a RIB built into the pontoon. As the light was going by this time shooting was carried out under lights and it rather looked like a large UFO was trundling across the lake.

They finished filming just short of 8pm.

Apparently all this will result in a 60 second advert that will appear on TV in about a month.

Needless to say the clubs funds have received a considerable boost.

As soon as we have them I will post pictures into the gallery.

Finally a big thanks to Steve Kelham who put an awful lot of effort into this, not only being down there on Monday but quite literally all day Tuesday.
