GP14 Fleet Plans & Scoring for 2010

March 5th, 2010 by the Webmaster

Dear GP14 Fleet Member

Further to the Fleet Meeting held at the GP14 Social event last week, please find a copy of the finalised plans for the year ahead (see below).

We have a new trophy up for grabs for single-handed sailing on Saturdays, as well as some plans for rigging launching and practical advice sessions for new, or less experienced sailors.

Also, please note the new mini-series on Sundays, running concurrently with Main Points (i.e. you only have to sail once and are automatically scored for both) and the changes to discards for Main Points scoring. Changes to my original proposals agreed at the Fleet Meeting are highlighted in red.

Also the Monthly Progress prize scheme will be re-introduced. Details also attached. (see below)

The GP14 Results website has been updated and an email from that with link will follow.

Lastly sailing starts this coming Sunday 7th March with The Ice Breaker. There will be three handicap races starting at 1pm.

Main Points racing starts the following Sunday 14th March. First race at 1.00pm.

I’m looking forward to a good GP14 season.

Kind regards, Craig

Craig Hewett
GP14 Fleet Captain

GP14 Fleet News - Dec 09

December 19th, 2009 by the Webmaster

AUTUMN SERIES
Just 2 of us out last Sunday for a lovely afternoons sailing. A light northerly under bright skies, with some great courses laid by Steve avoiding any patches of wind shadow

So far 6 boats have entered the series and 3 have qualified. With just 1 weekend left to sail in the Autumn Series, no more boats can qualify, so it’s a straight shoot-out between Steve, John & Hugh.

PRIZE GIVING for the series will take place on Sunday 20th Dec after racing, so would Steve, John & Hugh please make an effort to attend?

This year the Autumn Open Series runs each Sunday for 8 weeks with 3 races per day, starting at 12.00 noon. The last Sunday for the Autumn Series is 20th December.

With a theoretical total of 24 races possible, just 8 races are required to qualify. However, the qualifying number is reduced to one-third of the races sailed (rounded up) if races are not sailed due to weather conditions.

BOXING DAY OPEN MEETING
As ever the Club will be holding an Open Handicap event on Boxing Day. We are looking for Volunteers for OD, AOD, Rescue and the Galley. So if you can help out, please let the Racing Sec, Graham Tinsley, know.   Start is 12 O’Clock.

Last year we raised over £200 for the RNLI and it would be good to repeat that, get a good turn out from the Budworth fleets and put on a good event for the Visitors from the other North West Clubs.

DATES FOR DIARY 2010
If you are planning the family diary over the Christmas break, don’t forget to include:

GP Fleet news update - 8th Dec 09

December 8th, 2009 by the Webmaster

Four boats made it on to the water last Sunday for a blustery afternoon, particularly in the first race. With John and Maggie cold and wet after a capsize the wins went 2:1 in Ray and Jackie’s favour, from Steve & Jean.I understand there was not a quorum on Sun 29th Nov, but hopefully with a high pressure filling and light airs forecast for this coming weekend we will have another reasonable turnout. With a return to health I may even make it out on the water!!

GP Fleet News 13th Nov. 2009

November 14th, 2009 by the Webmaster

AUTUMN SERIES STARTS

The Autumn Series started should have started on Sunday 1st November, but due to the very windy conditions racing was abandoned for the day.

However, last Sunday Steve & Jean competed against Hugh and Ellie in much calmer conditions. Just two boats are required to make a quorum, though at least 4-6 boats each Sunday would be more fun.

This year the Autumn Open Series runs each Sunday for 8 weeks with 3 races per day, starting at 12.00 noon. The last Sunady for the Autumn Series is 20th December.

With a theoretical total of 24 races possible, just 8 races are required to qualify. However, the qualifying number is reduced to one-third of the races sailed (rounded up) if races are not sailed due to weather conditions.
CHRISTMAS OUTING
For several years Peter Wyche has organised this popular event, which will be on Friday the 20th November. I’ll just copy in his description.

Some people think Manchester is a “great when”!   In fact there’s much to look forward to in the club outing to Castlefield. Our visit this year is to the power hall at the Museum of Science and Industry on Liverpool Road. From where you will be whisked away to The Ox - the favoured drinking hole for ‘Manchester Royalty’ (The Coronation Street cast). From there into historic Castlefield via Canal Lock 92 to dine in a fashionable restaurant- Albert’s shed at the recently extended and refurbished Dukes with its canal basin view. Our start time is, as last year, 5.00 for 5.30 at the museum entrance for free admission. Our wonderful organisation allows you to to join the rest of the itinerary if you can’t make the start. All are welcome. Book your evening in advance with Peter Wyche with a deposit of £10 per head. Further details are available from him or his crew.

Peter. Tel: 0161 980 4912(H) or 07876362733(M) on the night
