Prizegiving & Laying Up Supper
The laying up supper and prize giving takes place on Saturday and it would be good to have as many Laser sailors there as we can muster. It will be a good night for everybody and a chance to catch up in a way that doesn’t happen when sailing. The prize winners for each series should be there to collect their prize and they are listed below for completeness. The prize list includes the first 4 in the Main Points, which includes the two Tonys who both qualified, (special well done) and silver fleet winners in the Summer Series and Wednesday Night. All prize winners are in bold below.
Main PointsThe Main Points results have been updated and they are now finalized for the season. 8 people have qualified which is excellent and follows the good turnouts of 16 in the summer and 12 on Wednesday making it a very good year
Many congratulations go to the following

The Laser Results have been updated. Go to the results site to view them (but remember that the years are out of sequence- look around 2004) click here
Ian Beadle helped to update them whilst I was away in August and I have now finalized them by recording the missing Wednesday night – 12 Aug and the three Summer Series. The 23rd Aug Summer has also been corrected and this finalises both Series’ results so the winners are……………………..
Wednesday Night
A very good turnout for the series with 12 Qualifiers – The most for a number of years. Congratulations go to:-
1st Tony Taylor
2nd Dave Nicholson
3rd Richard Hulme
Summer Series
Again the best turnout for a number of years with 16 Qualifiers and at times some very competitive racing (read this as ‘determined’!) Congratulations go to:-
1st Dave Nicholson
2nd Nick Cheetham
3rd Harry Cheetham
Propulsion
Racing should be based on the natural breeze and not on movement of the body etc to artificially create a drive on the sails. Since mentioning this at the beginning of the season it is gratifying to note that most people play a fair game. However, occasionally a good quality sailor still has a need to do well regardless of honesty – It is easily viewed from a distance on the shore and earns them no respect. I hope they can reform and thus improve the fun for everyone.
Wednesday End of Season Pursuit Race 2009
The usual end of series dinner took place this year but for the first time it was preceded by a Pursuit Race, bringing together the handicap and Laser fleet which was billed as ‘The True Wednesday Night Champion’. Happily for us it was won by a Laser!! So well done Andrew Brown for carrying the flag
This coming weekend
It is the Snipe Open this w/e so there no racing on Sat or Sunday
Best Wishes

Laser Results
A good turnout of 10 boats for the first day of sailing and in summer weather too! The results have been updated and can be found here
The second w/e was also fine weather ……..but for sunbathing rather than sailing!
Rules evening Wednesday 1st April at the club
If you would like to learn about the impact of recent changes to the sailing rules and how they will affect sailing at Budworth, you should come to the rules evening on Wednesday 1st April starting 7.30pm finishing at 9.30pm - hope to see you all there!
Rule 42
This is about pumping and other actions that make the boat move by means other than sailing. The purpose of the rule is to create a level playing field and make sailing fair for everyone
We have some qualified people at Budworth who want to gain on the water experience in judging Rule 42 infringements. I have therefore offered them the opportunity to do this at Budworth with the Laser Fleet, although I hope they are not kept very busy!
Roger Allen was an International Judge and Luke Shaw is a recently qualified RYA Regional Judge and they will both pop out occasionally on a RIB and check for infringements. If they see a breach of the rule they will either speak to the person on shore or, if the infringement looks like changing the results of the race, they will whistle and shout out the persons sail number. If this happens, you are normally required to do two turns or be disqualified from the race but for the time being it will be discretionary and on your own conscience to do your turns!
Additional Class Captain - Tony Wilcock
I have found myself with an extra commitment that will use some of my weekends in April and May when I really should be sailing and Tony Wilcock has kindly agreed to stand in for me when I am absent. He has been with the club a long time and will represent the fleet when I am not there, liaising with the race officer, meeting new members, resolving any problems etc ………..
Boat Park
All the Lasers at the club are now in their correct berth. The Laser park is full and I have had to manufacture new places to ensure that everyone can leave their boat at the club. So, it would help everyone if could you please take care to use your own berth - Thanks
Harry
The new sailing season is beckoning but there is still one Sunday working party left. The club relies on the voluntary help of its members for carrying out maintenance work and if you can make it between 10.30 and 3.00pm your help will be much appreciated
ICEBREAKER
The first sailing event of the new season is the Icebreaker handicap on Sunday 8th March - 3 races starting at 12.00
Dinghy Park
Will again be laid out with numbered berths. The Committee is looking at the overall layout of boat parking but the Laser area will be similar to last year. The Laser plan will be circulated as soon possible after the meeting but generally if you had a numbered berth last year, it will be the same again unless you let me know that you want a change
PRE SEASON SOCIAL
Arranged for Saturday lunchtime 14th March at the Cock o’ Budworth 12.30 - 2.00. This will be an opportunity to meet up before Class racing starts the following day. There will be lots to talk about including, how the new rules will affect the Laser fleet, Saturday v Sunday race day, Radial and 8.1 Classes, or maybe just having a general chat!
Spouses and offspring welcome and food is available
To help the pub, could you let me know asap if you would are expecting to join us?
Best Wishes
