Topper
Budworth achieved Volvo Championship Club status in 2001 and has developed a very strong topper training and development programme. Training is provided at all levels..basic sailing skills through to 1-2-1 clinics and coaching/mentoring is available at all levels of racing ability from club racer, north west junior traveller trophy series, north west topper traveller, nationwide topper series, national championship through to world championship campaigns.
Juniors and adult females can sail the Topper in club handicap racing on Saturday and Wednesday. Juniors also have Class racing on Saturday starting at 14.00 and can race on Sunday afternoons.
About 30 members have a Topper in the dinghy park and race them at the club and on the various racing circuits.
In 2006 around 10 members raced in the North West Traveller Series in fleets of 40+ boats on both lakes and the sea, 10 boats raced in the nationals in Weymouth and 4 boats and raced in the Worlds on Lake Garda where Budworth sailor Andrew Brown won the World Championship and Sue Brown won the adult category to give Budworth it’s first “double world champions”.

The Budworth prizegiving evening was held on Saturday 10th November.
The Topper fleet is awarded its prizes at this senior event to emphasise the link between the junior fleet and the senior classes.
James and John show off the glassware that they collected at the prizegiving evening.
John won the Topper Main Points and was runner up in the Summer Series. James was third in the Main Points.
Jacqueline Crow flew the flag for the adults by winning the summer Series, with Laura Burt and Ross Singleton taking the other awards.

Well Done! to Andrew, Hannah, Kieran, Rachael and Jonathan!
Andrew Brown has just won the Topper Nationals in North Berwick, Hannah Wilcock has won the Silver Fleet, Kieran Travis 6th in the Bronze and Rachael Wilcock has come 2nd and Jonathan Verity 3rd in the Regatta fleet. For a write up and final positions please see.

ANDREW WINS TOPPER NATIONALS & GRAND SLAM Budworth is proud to announce that a junior member - Andrew Brown, aged 15 - has just won the largest ever Topper Nationals (from 289 competitors!)
His Grand Slam of titles comprises the World, National and Inland Championships, plus the Nationwide Series. Andrew then went straight from North Berwick to the Laser Nationals, where he qualified for the gold fleet despite high winds, and then he travels to Lake Garda soon afterwards to defend his Worlds Topper title”.

The Budworth 2007 Topper Open meeting was held Sat. 14th July, and attracted a very good turnout.
